Maritzburg Cricket Club is the oldest cricket club in Pietermaritzburg (129 years old) and is affiliated to the Maritzburg Cricket Association. We have members who have been with the club since school days and our oldest player is in his 60’s
Based at Lynwood Club, we have built practice nets and make use of the adjoining Linpark School cricket pitch for games. There are 3 sides that represent MCC – a 1st team side which play 50 over games on a Sunday and 2 Saturday afternoon side which each play 35 overs. Over the years these sides have won the MCA league as well as the knock out T20 round on many occasions. MCC is a family orientated club and spouses and children are always present with their support.
MCC is run by a committee headed by a President who is voted in at the Annual General meeting as well as a Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and 2 extra members. Committee meetings are held monthly to ensure the smooth running of the club.
The club holds various fundraisers throughout the year in order to fulfill all of its objectives. Of the many accomplishments of MCC, is the newly laid pitch at Linpark School, the upgrading of family viewing area and the erection of a side screen. This will enable MCC to hold all our games at our own home ground and as we are based at Lynwood Club we have food and beverage and ablution facilities on hand. The members of MCC are very committed and have all personally had a hand in the upgrading of the various facilities.
Practices are held on a Thursday where all the guys come and practice their batting and bowling. A senior member runs the practice to ensure that each player gets an equal opportunity. After practice a cold beverage is usually enjoyed on the deck at Lynwood Club and some of the spouses join them and enjoy a light supper at the club.
A subscription fee is payable in order to play for MCC, part thereof is paid to the Maritzburg Cricket Association and also to Lynwood Club which gives the MCC member full access to Lynwood Club and all it’s facilities.
